Everything you need to know about epoxy!

The resin industry is complex and has various applications. There are many useful properties of epoxy resins and they are widely used in various applications. Let us discuss briefly, about the properties and uses of this compound, which has been used across the world for years.
Properties
  • According to a scientific definition, an epoxy resin is a cluster of polymers and prepolymers that consists of epoxide groups. They are also known as polyepoxides and their gyre of variations make them very useful in the chemical industry.
  • It was back in the year 1927 that the first few attempts to form epoxy resins was done in the country. The scientists that were able to finally giver rise to a new compound were Dr. S.O. Greenle and DR. Pierre Castan. They were dedicated towards making this absolutely amazing bipartite, that would exhibit wondrous properties and help in many experiments in the future.
  • It was found by the scientists that the epoxy resins exhibit some of the most desirable properties which made them very helpful for many areas of need. One of the primary qualities that it has is that it is resistant to heat. This makes it possible for it to be used in places such as the electric industry, where there is need for insulating material which doesn't heat up too much or melt.
  • Another great property of the epoxies is that they are very versatile and can be used in various applications without worrying about its spoiling of withering. Another great quality is that it is resistant to the harsh effects of most chemicals, which reveals about its strength.
Uses
  • As already discussed earlier we know that epoxy resins are widely essential in the electronic industry, due to its many helpful properties,
  • Dye industry also uses epoxy resins in different forms. They are used for coating different types of cloth. It's because the resins can make the cloth gain properties such as resistance to water, added strength and stretch as well as glossy appearance.
  • Epoxies are widely used in the leather curing industry. This is to add a weather-proofing property to the leather and also to give it a good shine that makes it look new for many years.
  • It’s used in the paint and flooring industry as well, due to its properties of versatility, strength, glossy appearance and water-proofing properties.
